BLUE & WHITE CHRISTMAS

DAY 4

of 7 DAYS OF  CHRISTMAS HOME TOURS

Even though they are on opposite coasts, homeowner Vicki Gordon, the executive story editor at 60 Minutes, and Lizabeth K. McGraw, an artist and designer in Venice, Calif., forged a wonderful partnership working on Vicki's 1890s brownstone on New York City's Upper West Side. "I wandered into Lizzie's store, Tumbleweed & Dandelion, on a trip and fell in love with its hand-painted furnishings," says Vicki. She and her husband, Michael Rubin, who along with their two daughters and many pets had been living in the house for 15 years, felt it was in need of a little refreshing. Pictured: Carol Maryan, a New York architect, crafted a pantry alcove from old barn doors and a demilune window Vicki found at an antiques store.

Here is another beautiful home from Countryliving.com.  I’m breaking up my 7 Days of Christmas Home Tours by taking a break from the traditional reds and adding this blue and white combination.  I hope this will inspire those of you who want try try something different.

From the narrow, dark, wood-lined entry to the spacious kitchen Vicki had renovated two years earlier with New York architect Carol Maryan, Lizabeth waved her magic paintbrush and lightened the dark wood with layers of creamy white paint, exchanged rugs for practical and beautiful hand-painted floors, and wove in touches of robin's-egg blue and buttery whites to give the house continuity and light with just the right fillip of delight. The result is a home that glows with comfort and warmth — especially at holiday time. Pictured: The tree and gifts shimmer with gold and silver balls and ribbons, along with beaded garlands inspired by Vicki's jewelry collection.
