CREAMY BROWN SUGAR FROSTING – Sweet Southern Blue

Here is another basic cake/cupcake frosting recipe with the addition of brown sugar. As always, you can use butter, Crisco, or a combination of each. If you will be serving the cake outside in the heat, the Crisco version will hold up better but it is strictly a personal preference.

FROSTING INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter (or 1 cup crisco) or (1/2 crisco and 1/2 butter combo)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 to 4 tbsp of milk or milk substitute

FROSTING DIRECTIONS

  1. In a mixer, cream together the butter (or Crisco) and brown sugar.
  2. Add vanilla and mix until it is combined.
  3. Add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time on low speed until combined. Increase speed and mix until desired consistency. (Add more milk if too thick or more powdered sugar if too thin)
